Step 1: Determine Whether You May Qualify for VA Home Care

VA home care benefits are based on individual eligibility and care needs. Veterans or their family members should contact their VA care team to determine what home-care services may be authorized. If you are already enrolled in VA health care, your VA provider or care coordinator can help you understand the options available to you.

Step 2: Identify the Type of Home-Based Care You Need

Consider what type of assistance would make it easier and safer to remain at home. LivAtHome provides non-medical support that may include personal care, companionship and supervision, assistance with daily activities, meal preparation, and light housekeeping. Your VA care team will determine which services are authorized under your benefits.

Step 3: Contact Your VA Care Team

Contact your VA health care provider, social worker, or care coordinator and ask about eligibility for home-based care services. Explain the type of assistance you need at home and ask whether VA-authorized non-medical home care may be available to you.

If you would like LivAtHome to provide your authorized services, tell your VA care team that you are interested in using LivAtHome as your home care provider.

Step 4: Complete the VA Assessment

The VA will determine your eligibility and assess the type and amount of home care that may be appropriate for you. Be prepared to discuss the daily activities you need assistance with, your current living situation, and any support you already receive from family or other caregivers.

The VA—not LivAtHome—determines eligibility and authorizes services covered through VA benefits.

Step 5: Request LivAtHome as Your Provider

If the VA authorizes home care services, let your VA care coordinator know that you would like to receive services from LivAtHome. Once we receive the appropriate authorization and information from the VA, we can coordinate your care and work with you to begin services.
